Director of Horticultural Substrates Laboratory, North Carolina State University
Dr. Brian Jackson, Ph.D., is professor of horticulture and director of the Horticultural Substrates Laboratory at North Carolina State University. Jackson has studied and researched soilless substrates for horticultural crop production systems since 2003 with an emphasis on developing novel substrate components and characterizing substrate hydration and water dynamics in soilless systems. In addition to being a leading global expert in the engineering and use of wood-based substrate materials, Jackson is also heavily involved in national and global substrate initiatives, advocacy groups, substrate manufacturer consultations, and multi-disciplinary scientific collaborations. He writes and speaks frequently across various in-person and virtual platforms to educate growers and other consumers of growing media about new advances and techniques in substrate science.
