Laboratory Manager, Lume Cannabis Co
Lauren Ferguson is the Manager of Lume Cannabis Company’s tissue culture lab in Michigan. She began her journey in cannabis shortly after receiving her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Iowa State University. She joined Lume during the early startup phase and was tasked with structuring the tissue culture process by which clean, renewed genetics would be grown to populate the mother stock and maintain a healthy crop. After continuing her education in tissue culture and synthetic seed technologies and demonstrating success in the lab, Lauren was given the budget to build a ground-up laboratory space which expanded on her tissue culture program along with two additional rooms for analytical testing and internal QC. Since then, the tissue culture department has grown to include a team of technicians who perform various culturing methods depending on the needs of the cultivation. The refined process allows Lauren and her team to maintain a large quantity of genetics in storage as well as to revitalize strains currently in production. As additional biosecurity for the cultivation, Lauren brought equipment capable of early pathogen screening including qPCR in house to allow the laboratory full control of their plant pathogen screening program that utilizes a range of methods to identify pathogens early on and the tissue culture process to aid in elimination.
