Dr. Michael Gutensohn is an Associate Professor of Horticulture in the Division of Plant and Soil Sciences at West Virginia University. His expertise is in the biochemistry and genetics of plant specialized metabolites and their roles in the interaction of plants with their environment. In his research he uses analytical chemistry as well as classical and molecular genetic approaches to study the biosynthesis of such specialized metabolites and strategies for potential improvements. Currently he is the lead scientist in a USDA funded project investigating the cannabinoid and essential oil biosynthetic network in Cannabis and environmental factors that induce increased cannabinoid levels.
