Founder and Managing Partner, Merida Capital Holdings
Mitchell Baruchowitz is the founder and Managing Partner of the private equity firm Merida Capital Holdings, which has deployed more than $275 million, and has ~$450 million in assets under management (AUM) across the cannabis ecosystem. Since its inception in 2016, Merida has completed more than 100 transactions in 70 portfolio companies that include leading ancillary companies and legal operators alike. In addition, Baruchowitz has founded seven cannabis companies that have achieved exits of more than $100 million and currently sits on the Board of several leading cannabis technology companies. He is also the former Chairman of public SPAC Merida Merger Corp. which merged with leading cannatech company Leafly (LFLY).
Overall, he has 25 years of entrepreneurial, legal, regulatory and financial experience in highly regulated industries and more than 11 years of cannabis investment experience, having entered the cannabis space as an expert in the regulatory component of cannabis limited licensing and multi-state cultivation operations. He is a founder of limited license operators in Connecticut, Nevada, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia and Missouri. Mitchell is a frequent speaker and author on cannabis investment strategy and diligence through his widely read “Reflections From Under the Aqueduct” commentary series.
Baruchowitz previously served as Associate General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of publicly-traded MarketAxess (MKTX) and General Counsel of Pali Capital before leading investment banking operations for ACGM and Cavu Securities. He holds a B.A. in History from Brandeis University, and a Juris Doctorate from Boston University School of Law. He is a member of the bar in both New York and Massachusetts.
